Former HIV-AIDS Advocate now in Bad Books (Source and Headline: Fiji TV website)
7 Dec 2005 18:11:27
The Ministry of Health is desparately looking for a woman who has been found to be spreading the deadly HIV virus deliberately.
She was once an AIDS advocate but has since begun earning her living as a sex worker after she was divorced.
For legal reasons we can't reveal her identity.
Only that the Ministry of Health is trying to locate her over reports that she has been transmitting the HIV virus deliberately to her sex partners.
She is known to the Ministry of Health and police but both are facing great difficulties in locating her.
They have now confirmed the woman is resorting to prostitution for survival.
The ministry says the woman knows she's HIV positive and the danger she poses to others.
And the ministry has a fair idea of why she's deliberately doing this.
The woman was once an advocate for HIV AIDS sufferers and also attended international meetings as a delegate from Fiji.
The Ministry says the focus shouldn't be only on this woman. But others who come in contact with her to practice safe sex.
The ministry is working on a 24 hour basis trying to locate the woman.
And One National News has also established the same woman was responsible for the suicidal death of a man in Kiribati.
It's understood when she was in Kiribati attending a HIV-AIDS meeting, she slept with a local man.
And after the man found out he had slept with an HIV positive woman he committed suicide the health ministry here has received a strong letter of complaint from Kiribati.

VANUATU: Volcanic Eruptions Forces Women's Conference Cancellation
Tuesday: December 6, 2005
A scheduled meeting of women leaders in Vanuatu to be held next week on the island of Ambae has been cancelled due to the increasing volcanic eruption of Mount Manaro, Daily Post reports.
The Vanuatu National Council of Women conference was to coincide with the presentation of silver jubilee medals by the Head of State to the people of Penama for their contribution towards the development of the country in the last 25 years.
With the state of emergency declaration, the meeting has been moved to the capital, Port Vila.
Meanwhile, three New Zealand geologists have travelled to the Vanuatu island of Ambae as fears rise over the likelihood of a major volcanic eruption.
Brad Scott and Steve Sherburn of GNS Science and Shayne Cronin of Massey University are expected to monitor activities of Mt Manaro, for at least a week.
The mountain has not been monitored for about a decade, but the New Zealanders have taken portable seismic gear with them and equipment for gas monitoring, a GNS Science spokesman said.
Lake Vui, filled with acidic water, lies in the crater of Mt Manaro, and a Vanuatu volcanologist said it posed a serious risk of a steam explosion.
"If the chamber breaks and water reaches magma (molten rock), there will be a terrific explosion, the like of which has not been seen in the country before," Douglas Charlie told the Vanuatu Daily Post.
Local authorities have been evacuating thousands of people because of the danger posed by Mt Manaro, which began ejecting ash and smoke late last month.
Vanuatu Prime Minister Ham Lini declared a state of emergency and also ordered the deployment of two ships to evacuate residents if the eruption worsens.
About 2000 tonnes of ash has been landing on surrounding areas every day since November 27.
Job Esau, director of Vanuatu's National Disaster Management Office, said a team of seven scientists was trying to monitor and predict any future activity.
"There are three New Zealand scientists and we already have on the ground on Ambae two volcanologist from Vanuatu and also there are another two from the French," he said.
Officials from the nearby islands of Pentecost and Maewo have been urged to resettle Ambae residents if the island is threatened by a major eruption.....Vanuatu Daily Post/Stuff NZ/PNS
